Last night we had our annual pumpkin carving party at our place in Abensberg. As usual we had a great time and I can’t wait for next year’s. Also, I’m pretty sure we have the coolest pumpkins in the neighborhood now…

It’s this time of the year again. Last Saturday, we had a pumpkin party. It was my first pumpkin party on German soil, and it was a blast. Tina and Beth made last-minute pumpkin pie (delicious), pumpkin soup (amazing/spicy) and pumpkin pizza (fabulous) and everyone brought a pumpkin and knives. After we were done carving the pumpkins, Beth roasted the pumpkin seeds and we had those, too. I feel like I haven’t used the word pumpkin quite enough yet. Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin. It’s a miracle that we didn’t all turn into pumpkins, I guess. Anyway, we had a great time, and the same goes for our friends who were there. I have a feeling that this is going to become a regular thing…
Everyone is quietly working on their pumpkins on our front porch.

The result of the evening's work: Eight beautifully carved Jack O'Lanterns glow in the dark in our front yard.

Tonight, Amanda and August invited Taylor, Eve and me over to carve pumpkins. I had never done it before, so it was kind of exciting. I picked a skull pattern and actually succeeded in carving it out. Hooray! Here are some shots I took over there:
The one with the skulls on the top left is mine…

Josh Bickel struck again. This time, he ground photos of the photojournalism faculty into this hilarious little Halloween film on JibJab. Here’s the cast list: Jackie Bell as Vampire, Keith Greenwood as Wolverine, Rita Reed as Frankenstein’s Bride, David Rees as Dr. Frankenstein and Josh himself as Frankenstein’s Monster. Just see for yourself. But hold on tight to your chair, otherwise you might fall out of it…
